From the book ‘The richest man in babylon’ I found this book on tons of lists dealing with finances. These are what I gather from what I read.

  1. Start thy purse to fattening.
    • Basically, save one out of every ten dollars you make. In a nutshell, pay yourself first.
  2. Control thy expenditures.
    • Control what goes out, if it’s not needed dont spend. If you get a raise, you will always find a new way to spend it.
  3. Make thy gold multiply
    • Invest in high return items, or CDs, government bonds, etc
  4. Guard thy treasures from loss
    • Do your research before investing, loaning. With investments, there’s always a risk of loss.
  5. Make of thy dwelling a profitable investment
    • Buy a home, and take care of it. It’s an investment and could be used later on as capital.
  6. Insure a future income
    • Leave a means to your family to safely earn in your absence , whether it be real estate, or bonds, 401k, etc.
  7. Increase thy ability to earn
    • Increase your skill set to increase your earning power. Have a competitor making more? See what they are doing and learn how to do it if you don’t know how.
